The administrative data made available by the SIH are derived from the consolidation of the reference database of ships and shipowners, which thus constitutes the "SIH reference database of vessels and vessel owners".

This repository is fed by all the data sources described below:

- the FPC flow, the "Community Fishing Fleet" file: this is a database containing all the fishing vessels flying the flag of a Member State, in accordance with Community regulations. It defines the population of reference vessels from which the surveys and sampling plans of the SIH are set up.

- the flow from Maritime Affairs: these data provide information on the role of the crew, which is a compulsory navigation title for vessels engaged in maritime navigation (commercial, fishing or pleasure).

- the VMS "Vessel Monitoring System" flow: this is the satellite surveillance system for fishing vessels. It is mandatory for professional fishing vessels over 12 metres long, under the European Union flag, since 1 January 2012.

This system provides data on the identification of the fishing vessel, the geographical position, the date and time of the position, the course and the speed of the fishing vessel to the fishing authorities at regular intervals.

+ technical characteristics (length, power, tonnage, declared fishing gear, etc.),

+ all historical events in the life of the vessels (entry and exit from the fleet, modification of characteristics),

+ personal data (name and address of the owner).

- Flow from Maritime Affairs :

+ the type of role (individual, collective),

+ the shipowner's identifier,

+ the annual number of fishing days by type of vessel (small-scale fishing, coastal fishing, offshore fishing, large-scale fishing),

+ for each month of the year, the total number of days outfitted and the average number of men enrolled.

+ the flag

+ external marking

The consolidation process consists of:

1 - Reconstituting the "Vessels" repository on the basis of the data from the above-mentioned flows (list of vessels, period, characteristics);

2 - Matching these vessels to the consolidated SIH repository (= reconciliation): when the vessel is present in the consolidated SIH repository, the two are linked. When it is not present, it is added to the SIH consolidated repository.
