  • Distribution of pelagic herring larvae in the North Atlantic (Clupea harengus) in the eastern Channel (Downs herring) in winter. After hatching, pelagic larvae are carried by currents and glide toward the south and east of the North Sea, during their development. The average abundance per km² of herring larvae sampled during the IBTS campaigns (2001-2011) is shown. These can be found, in the month of April, in the post-larval stage, near the French coast between Boulogne-sur-mer to Dieppe and then meets a large nursery area in the North Sea.

  • Distribution of spawning herring in the North Atlantic (Clupea harengus) in the Eastern Channel (Downs herring) between November and January. Eggs are laid on the gravel bottom between 20 and 40 m deep.
