The project aims to carry out annual trawling cruises in the three estuaries of the Seine, the Loire and the Gironde in order to :
- Produce annual indices of juvenile abundance of species of halieutic interest using the estuaries as nurseries. These indices are intended to be used by the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), which produces annual advice for the management of marine resources and ecosystems for EU Member States.
- Map the main nursery areas and identify the environmental factors explaining these spatial distributions (salinity, depth, etc.)
- Assess the quality of the three estuaries as nurseries by comparing growth rates and stress levels of juvenile sentinel species (sea bass, whiting, sole, sprats).
