Oceanographic cruise - RESSGASC (Resources of Gascony)

The 62 RESSGASC campaigns allow the quarterly assessment of the quantities of various species (hake, sole, Norway lobster, etc.) discarded by fishing vessels (individuals below legal landing size).

This information, together with data collected from the demographic structure of landings (using samples from auctions), is essential for the evolution of commercial fish stocks.

Statement

These cruises are part of the programme of quarterly observations carried out from 1985 to 1997, and semi-annually from 1998 until 2002, on the fishing grounds of the artisanal trawlers in the open sea.

The vessel used (N/O Gwen Drez) is a steel stern trawler, built in 1976 in Cherbourg, similar to those used by fishermen in the Bay of Biscay.

The hauls are carried out, most of the time during the day, with a 25-metre "Vendéen" type trawl net with a vertical opening of 1.70 m and a useful horizontal opening of around 10 m. The trolling time is around 2 hours.

Cruise reports are available on https://archimer.ifremer.fr/.
